The Monkton Hotel was built in 1858 as a stop along the North Central Railway (NCR) that connected Baltimore to York, PA. The hotel became a place to stop for soldiers during the Civil War, merchants doing business, and city residents who wanted to escape the city. Since then, the hotel has gone through many iterations and now operates as a boarding house for long-term tenants as well as a few rooms for overnight stays. The Monkton Hotel also has a cafe and a bike and tube rental for visitors to enjoy the river and trail.

Less than an eighth of a mile from the Hotel, Manor Mill is a pre-revolutionary grist mill that has been recently restored and now houses an amazing art gallery, classes and workshops across all disciplines.
