We did it! After 18 months of continuous restoration of the early 1800's (originally built in the 1740's) Mill and Miller's house in Monkton, MD, we’re proud to greet you at our new art and learning center in the Manor Mill (located 1/4 mile east of the Monkton Hotel, 2019 Monkton Rd). Today the buildings and grounds are in lovely shape and are ready for you to visit, enjoy the artwork, pick up a few things and take a tour.

Book Binding Workshop SUNDAY AUGUST 1! Join Val Lucas of @bowerbox and learn 3 variations of pamphlet bookbinding techniques in this hands-on workshop. You'll create 3 book structures that can be adapted to many shapes and sizes: a 3-hole pamphlet, a 5-hole pamphlet, and a hardcover pamphlet. Decorative paper and old maps make great covers, you can also bring your own decorative papers to use.
No experience necessary, all tools and materials provided, suitable for adults and teens. |

“Awakenings” The Gallery in the Mill is open Thursday - Sunday, 11 am - 7 pm and is paired with classes that are now open for registration. For our first show we have eight local artists who will have their work on display through Sept 25, including a small store to purchase works made by these and other artists. Artists include Bim Jones, Joyce Hesselberth, James Voshell, Shirley Apple Jenkins, Cheryl Bubier, Mike and Joanne Bare, and Lynne Jones.

A lot of work had to happen to make the front walkway accessible for everyone, including adding a new pathway.

The end of a long road to the bathroom Who knew that adding bathrooms and plumbing to a grist mill could be so involved, or so exciting! But we are oh so much closer! After 12 months of planning and hard work, we have finally installed a brand new septic system that serves both the house and the Mill.
The three tanks in the picture below will provide a modern, environmentally sensitive solution with a pre-treatment system designed to process the flow and make sure what gets sent up to the drain fields -- located far up on the ridge -- can easily percolate into the ground. With the help of grant funding from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, this state-of-the art septic system isn't the sexiest thing on the property, but it's perhaps the most important to ensure a sustainable future for this beautiful mill.

Above: three large tanks support both the Miller’s House and the Mill. To limit the amount of disruption, a boring machine thrust a 100’+ tube through the earth to feed the drain fields on the ridge, an engineering marvel in its own right.

Want to join the fun? Those of you who could teach a class, lecture, or demonstrate their creativity please let us know! This could include fine, folk, writing, woodworking, home arts, music and dance and could be 2-5 hour sessions, or if space allows, on a weekly basis. Are you an artist looking for a studio? Reserve your spot! If you are an artist looking for a small studio space, the Mill is about as good as it gets. Spaces will not be available until Spring, 2022 (though we’re trying hard to make it sooner!), but we encourage you to sign up on our wait list if you would like to be informed as things progress.

Feel the good vibe at the Mill We're an education-oriented center, allowing groups and retreats to meet. We have three floors of spacious areas to accommodate these groups, and more space to come this fall and winter.
